FAQs
HIHF's FAQ
General FAQs
1. What makes your clinic different from others?
We are an integrative health clinic focused on supporting many different healthcare issues. Our team includes acupuncturists, chiropractors, massage therapists, naturopaths, and more—all working collaboratively to provide compassionate, personalized care rooted in both science and tradition.
2. Do I need a referral to book an appointment?
No referral is necessary. You can book directly with any of our practitioners. If you’re unsure who to see, our front desk team is happy to guide you to the most appropriate provider.
3. Are your services covered by insurance?
Yes, many of our services—including acupuncture, chiropractic, massage, and naturopathy—are covered by extended health benefits. We offer direct billing to most insurance providers for your convenience.
4. How often should I come in for treatment?
It depends on your health goals and the therapy you’re receiving. Some concerns benefit from weekly sessions, while others require bi-weekly or monthly check-ins. Your practitioner will recommend a schedule that suits your condition and lifestyle.
5. Is it safe to come in if I’m pregnant or trying to conceive?
Yes! In fact, we specialize in care during fertility, pregnancy, and postpartum. All of our practitioners are trained in supporting these stages safely and effectively, with treatment plans tailored to your changing body and hormones.
6. What if I’m scared of chiropractic adjustments or needles?
We get it—your comfort matters. Our chiropractors offer gentle techniques without the traditional “cracking” if preferred, and our acupuncturists are skilled at working with patients who are needle-shy. Communication is key, and we’re always happy to adapt your treatment.
7. Do you offer treatments for kids or teens?
Yes, we have practitioners who specialize in pediatric care. From digestive issues to sleep challenges and sports injuries, we support the whole family with age-appropriate, gentle care.
8. Can I see more than one practitioner on the same day?
Yes, many patients book multiple services during one visit—for example, acupuncture followed by massage or chiropractic. Our front desk can help coordinate back-to-back appointments for your convenience.
9. What should I wear to my appointment?
Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing. For acupuncture or massage, you may be asked to change or partially undress, but we ensure your privacy and comfort with proper draping at all times.
10. What does acupuncture feel like? Does it hurt?
Most people feel very little — if anything — when the needles are inserted. You may feel a dull, achy sensation or warmth. Many patients find acupuncture relaxing and even fall asleep during treatment.
Fertility Care
1. What factors can contribute to infertility in individuals and couples?
Infertility can result from various factors, including hormonal imbalances, structural issues, age, lifestyle choices, and underlying medical conditions. Both male and female partners can be affected, and sometimes the cause remains unexplained.
2. What treatments are available for improving fertility in all genders?
At our clinic, we offer a range of holistic therapies to support fertility, including acupuncture, naturopathic medicine, nutritional counseling, and stress management techniques. These treatments aim to enhance reproductive health and complement conventional medical approaches.
3. Can acupuncture help improve fertility or IVF success?
Absolutely. Acupuncture may help regulate hormones, improve blood flow to the uterus, reduce stress, and support egg quality. Many studies support its benefits before and after IVF. We recommend starting acupuncture 8–12 weeks before your IVF cycle.
4. Can I get acupuncture if I’m doing IVF, IUI, or on fertility medications?
Yes. Acupuncture complements medical fertility treatments and can be safely done alongside IVF, IUI, Clomid, Letrozole, or hormone therapy.
5. Do you treat male fertility issues like low sperm count or motility?
Yes. Acupuncture, herbal medicine, and lifestyle support can help improve sperm quality. We often work with couples to support both partners on their fertility journey.
Prenatal Care
1. What prenatal services do you offer to support a healthy pregnancy?
We provide personalized prenatal care, including acupuncture, pelvic floor physiotherapy, naturopathy, holistic nutrition, osteopathy, chiropractic care, and massage therapy, all aimed at supporting a healthy pregnancy.
2. Can chiropractic care help with pregnancy back pain or breech babies?
Yes. Our chiropractors use gentle, pregnancy-safe techniques including Webster technique, which helps with pelvic alignment and may support breech repositioning.
3. Is prenatal massage safe in the first trimester?
Yes, when performed by a trained prenatal massage therapist. All our RMTs are certified in pregnancy massage and adjust pressure, positioning, and techniques based on your trimester and needs.
4. What role does pelvic floor physiotherapy play in prenatal care?
Pelvic floor physiotherapy helps prepare the pelvic muscles for childbirth, supports bladder and bowel function, and can prevent or address issues such as incontinence during and after pregnancy.
5. Is acupuncture safe during pregnancy?
Yes. Acupuncture is safe during all stages of pregnancy when performed by a trained practitioner. It can help with nausea, fatigue, back pain, anxiety, and more. Our Calgary-based acupuncturists have years of experience supporting healthy pregnancies.
